(BANGKOK, June 2022)—Between April and June 2022, Fortify Rights secured 23 grants totaling more than US$50,000 in emergency support to directly support Myanmar human rights defenders at risk and their families. The grants were obtained from four different emergency fund mechanisms to provide critical support to 22 human rights defenders at risk, including journalists, political prisoners, members of workers’ and students’ unions, former members of parliament and members of Myanmar’s township development committee facing reprisals following the February 1, 2021 coup. The grants helped ensure safe relocations, access legal support and medical assistance, and other critical resources for human rights defenders and their families.

Since the coup in Myanmar on February 1, 2021, Fortify Rights has secured nearly US$867,565 in emergency assistance to support more than 570 human rights defenders and their families facing security risks due to their human rights activism.
