(DHAKA and COX’S BAZAR, June 2022)—Between June 13 to November 30, 2022, a virtual exhibition entitled, “We Are Rohingya,” hosted by Rohinyatographer Magazine, featured photographs by Rohingya Media Fellows Azimul Hasson and Omal Khair. This exhibition explores the identity of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar living in the world’s largest refugee camp, through the lens of Rohingya photographers. 

The Liberation War Museum in Dhaka, Bangladesh also exhibited the photographs from June 20 to July 7, 2022.

The Rohingya Media Fellows project is an award-winning joint initiative of Fortify Rights and Doha Debates to develop the skills and promote the work of aspiring Rohingya refugee photographers. Fortify Rights and Doha Debates have provided trainings in conducting interviews and creating character portraits for photography and films and equipped the Media Fellows with hardware and access to social media platforms, enabling them to share their own stories with a wider audience. On August 25, 2022, FotoEvidence, a leading publishing house dedicated to documentary photography focused on human rights and social and ecological justice, published a book of exclusive photography and poetry by the media fellows. The book, A Chance to Breatheis available to purchase direct from the publisher or on Amazon. All proceeds from the book sales go directly to the Rohingya community.
