Thailand’s justice system is failing survivors of domestic violence.
Women have a right to protection from violence, including domestic violence, under international human rights law. “Just Stay Silent”: Lack of Access to Effective Remedies for Women Survivors of Domestic Violence in Thailand makes detailed recommendations for the Thai government to strengthen its current domestic violence law, facilitate specialized training programs for relevant members of the Thai justice system, develop protocols to promote inter-agency coordination, and allocate adequate resources to support domestic violence survivors.
Based on more than 50 interviews, this report reveals how domestic violence survivors in Thailand face significant challenges in obtaining legal protection and support through the Thai justice system, providing illustrative examples.
