(MAE SOT, May 16, 2025)—Between May 14 and 16, 2025, members of Thailand’s Senate committee on human rights conducted an investigation into the refugee situation on the Myanmar-Thailand border. Fortify Rights and the Fort Director Puttanee Kangkun joined the investigation in her capacity as a member and secretary to the committee. The committee initiated the investigation in response to a complaint submitted by Fortify Rights on the arbitrary arrest and detention of six Rohingya refugee children by Thai police.
As part of the investigation, the committee met with relevant government officials in Tak Province, including the Deputy Governor, the Tak Immigration Office, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Mae Sot District Office, and the Mae Sot Police Station, as well as civil society organizations working with refugees and migrant communities from Myanmar.
