(THAILAND, June 18, 2025)— The Spirit in Education Movement held film screenings of Exodus—a 23-minute documentary by Fortify Rights and Doha Debates that follows the lives of three young Rohingya refugee photographers from Myanmar living in one of the world’s largest refugee camps. The screenings took place on June 14 and 18, 2025 in Mae Sot and Chiang Rai as well as South Korea as part of a 2025 Myanmar Film Tour.
Exodus follows the stories of Omal Khair, Dil Kayas, and Azimul Hasson, three Rohingya survivors of genocide forced from their homes in Rakhine State during Myanmar-military-led clearance operations of 2017. The film explores how the three survivors use photography and social media, providing a unique window into the everyday life of Rohingya refugees.
Fortify Rights, in partnership with Doha Debates, provided on-the-ground photography and media-skills training for the three young Rohingya refugees featured in the documentary film, equipping them with mobile phones and access to social media platforms. The joint project won a Shorty Award in 2020, a Communitas Award in 2021, and an Anthem Award in 2022. In 2022, the Impact Docs Awards awarded Exodus a short documentary award of merit in the category of contemporary issues and awareness-raising.
