(DHAKA, April 4, 2025)—On April 4, 2025, Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, echoed recommendations by Fortify Rights on establishing a humanitarian channel to facilitate necessary supplies to the people of Rakhine State, Myanmar. Yunus made the announcement at the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, saying: “A humanitarian channel in Rakhine [State] may be established for the supply of basic necessities to the people to stop further displacement from Rakhine [State].”

On March 15, 2025, just days after Fortify Rights published a news release advocating for establishing a humanitarian corridor, the U.N. Secretary General also called for a corridor between Bangladesh and Rakhine State, Myanmar. In making the recommendation, the Secretary-General said: “We need to intensify the humanitarian aid inside Myanmar to create the conditions for that return to be successful. And that is the reason why one of the discussions we had was about the possibility, if the circumstances allow, to have also humanitarian aid channeled from Bangladesh.

Fortify Rights’s advocated for the establishment of a humanitarian corridor in response to evidence of the Myanmar junta systematically denying life-saving humanitarian aid to civilians in need.”
