(August 23, 2025)—On August 23, 2025, the Rohingya-led Rohingya Human Rights Initiative published, The Ashes of Rakhine, a report documenting atrocities committed by the Arakan Army during its takeover of Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships from the Myanmar military junta in Rakhine State. It highlights how the Arakan Army is responsible for the destruction, sexual violence, forced conscription, and mass killings.
Fortify Rights supported the report by providing editing and technical support. During the report launch, Fortify Rights also spoke about the need for international justice mechanisms to hold all perpetrators accountable, including the Arakan Army and Rohingya armed groups.
