(COX’S BAZAR, December 2, 2024)—Fortify Rights partnered with professional photographer Jamie Ellington to conduct a day-long photography workshop for aspiring young Rohingya refugee photographers. Ten Rohingya youth, including four women, living in refugee camps in Bangladesh joined the training.

The workshop introduced participants to the fundamentals of photography, lighting, and composition, as well as storytelling techniques such as framing and building visual narratives. Reflecting on the workshop, one participant said: “This basic photography training has given me practical skills and fresh ideas that I’m excited to use to start new projects. It’s shown me how photography can be a powerful way to highlight important social issues and connect with my community through meaningful storytelling.”

Jamie Ellington is a New York City-based multidisciplinary artist working in fine art and fashion photography, music production, and writing.
