(COX BAZAAR, February 1, 2024)—On February 1, 2024, the third anniversary of the military coup in Myanmar, 17 Rohingya refugee-led civil society organizations in Cox’s Bazar District, Bangladesh published a joint statement in English and Burmese languages. In the statement, the groups advocated for the junta to be held accountable for atrocity crimes committed against Rohingya and others following the coup.
“Together, we stand united with the people of Myanmar in our pursuit of a shared democratic future, one where all of Myanmar’s citizens, including Rohingya, can coexist in harmony, free from discrimination, persecution, and ongoing atrocities,” read the statement.
Fortify Rights provided technical assistance to the groups in drafting the statement, translating it into the Burmese language, and laying it out.
